Hauberg Estate Updates Performed by LU25 Apprentices

Eight Local Union 25 apprentices, along with Plumbing Instructor Craig Buckwalter and Business Agent Bill Allison, are using their plumbing and HVAC expertise to make a number of much-needed updates to Rock Island's Hauberg Estate. The bulk of the work is being done at the estate's Carriage House, including:

  • Replacement of two outside wall faucets
  • New pipes for the educational classroom hand sink
  • Replumbed car wash station for the original owner's electric car
  • Replumbed horse trough in the stable
  • Replumbed soapstone sink in upstairs apartment laundry room
  • Replumbed original bathroom in upstairs apartment, including toilet, lavatory and cast-iron tub

The volunteer project began on August 24 and will be completed by September 8.

"The work that Local 25 is performing will help us save thousands of dollars that will allow us to focus on refinishing other key areas of the property for future community rental," said Deb Kuntzi, Hauberg Estate Executive Director. "We're very appreciative of their professionalism and willingness to help us."

Designed by Chicago architect Robert C. Spencer, the mansion and grounds at the estate have come to be known as a Prairie style masterpiece. Local Union 25 is proud to be part of the renovation process of this historic building.
