Application deadline is January 31, 2025

All applications and necessary documents must be turned in by the January 31, 2025 deadline to be considered for the 2025 apprentice program. Applications will not be considered if necessary documents have not been received.

Applicants must finalize their application by signing a completed application acknowledgment form in person at the Rock Island, IL office. Applicants who do not arrive in person and have all their documents submitted prior to the 2025 deadline will not be considered for the program in 2025. It is important for applicants to have a clear understanding of the office and training location. Study guides will also be available for $20 at the training center. Study guides will not be mailed.

Applications received after the January 31, 2025 deadline will be considered for the 2026 apprentice program and will receive notification of application status in February 2026.

Your application will not be complete until you have provided a copy of the following requirements:

  • Driver’s license or photo ID
  • Birth certificate
  • High school diploma and transcripts or an approved high school equivalency GED certificate or scores
  • Military transfer or discharge forms DD-214 or equivalent (if applicable)

QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY FOR AN APPLICANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A PROBATIONARY PIPE TRADES APPRENTICESHIP

  1. Must be at least 17 years of age to apply and 18 years of age by the beginning of the apprenticeship.
  2. Complete all fields and return this form with the following:
    1. Driver's license
    2. Birth certificate
    3. High school transcripts and diploma or high school equivalency (GED) official report of test results and any partial high school transcripts.
    4. Military transfer or discharge Form DD- 214, (if applicable).
  3. Successfully complete a five-part test, with at least the minimum cut-off score, when required.
  4. Appear for interview when notified.
  5. Must be capable of performing the work of the trade.
  6. Before employment and acceptance in the apprenticeship program, all applicants will be required to pass (The expense of these tests will be paid by the Committee):
    1. Drug test
    2. Background check

IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED FOR A PROBATIONARY APPRENTICESHIP, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  1. Serve as a probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (1,700-2,000 hours of on-the-job training).
  2. Serve a 5-year apprenticeship (including the probationary period 8,000-10,000 hours of on-the-job training).
  3. Report for work on a regular basis.
  4. Provide your own transportation to and from the job site.
  5. Work under the direction of a journeyman on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily.
  6. Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes.
  7. Pay a user fee, if required, for related training class materials.
  8. Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.
