Support for Kids in Need
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Local Union 25 Plumbers and Pipefitters golfed for a great cause on Saturday, September 15 as they teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley to support new children entering the School-Based Mentoring program. This is the second year Local Union 25 has supported the program. The event raised $3,000 to support children at Denkmann Elementary in Rock Island and Adams Elementary in Davenport.
“More and more children are in need of our one-to-one mentoring program,” said President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley Jay Justin. “When ‘Bigs’ visit with a child in need, whether in the classroom or on the playground, their confidence and concentration is increased. We’re grateful to the union for supporting us with cash and volunteers to help children grow in their academic careers.”
Union members are a natural fit for this program Local Union 25 Business Manager Tom McCune said, “We are trained in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our plumbers, pipefitters, welders and HVAC service technicians are able to demonstrate that a great career is within reach, hopefully inspiring these children to take an interest in technical topics as part of their coursework.”
