Organized Labor teams up with Mission of Mercy
Last week several union members from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 25 and IBEW Local 145 donated a full day of skilled labor towards the installation and set-up of the Mission of Mercy free dental clinic. The free dental clinic, ran from Friday October 5 through 6, providing cleanings, extractions and filings to those in need. There were no restrictions or requirements for the service.
“We provided essential dental services to nearly 1,400 Quad City adults and kids,” says Dr. Kyle Gagliardo, DDS, a dentist with Mission of Mercy.
Mission of Mercy is a 100 percent volunteer based organization that has provided nearly $3.5 million in free dental care to 5,600 patients since 2008.
“Organized labor has been critical in the success of Mission of Mercy’s initiative. The donated labor and supplies we get from unions across the state are essential to the Mission,” says Dr. Gagliardo.
Petersen Plumbing and Adel Wholesalers also contributed generously to this event through supplies and labor.
“When there is a need in our community, we’re there to help whenever we can,” says Dave Keefer, Business Agent for LU 25.
Representing the commitment to community service held by LU 25 were: Jon Scanlon, Mark Runge, Mike Runge, Mike Ode, Rick Gaghagen, and Dave Keefer.
Representing the commitment to community service held by IBEW 145 were: Scott Verschoore, Cory Bergfeld, Kurt Donnelly, George Johnson, “Jimmy C” Circello, and Ben Clerkin.
